Tips on Getting More Steps into Your Day



Getting in those steps in can be a little challenging when we are losing some sunlight after 5pm or if your goal is to reach 10,000 steps a day. We know the benefits of walking lowers our risks for variety of diseases, boost your overall mood, reduces stress, and promotes better sleep. Here are easy ways to get in those step anywhere you go.


1. Walk and talk when you're on the phone.

If you need to make a phone call or you're catching with friends, use that time to step outside and walk or walk around the house or office when possible.


2. Need to run errands? Park your car further.

Yes, park your car far enough where you can get a good number of steps in. If you live near a shopping center that has Target, ULTA, TJ Maxx, Homegoods, and a market this is a great opportunity to walk from store to store instead of driving. This is fun and easy way to reach your step goal.


3. Take the stairs.

Whenever there is an option to take the stairs, do it. Taking the stairs will burn more calories and improve your cardiovascular fitness. It may even be quicker than waiting for the elevator.


4. Take your dog for a walk.

A regular walk is important for your pet's health too. Aim for 30 minutes for 5 days a week, your dog will be so happy to go on a walk with you.


5. Play with your kids outside.

Nowadays kids are always on their iPads, tablets, or laptop. Limit the screen time and play outside. You can play baseball, catch, tag, anything you can do to encourage you kids and yourself to get active.


6. Plan hikes.

There are many walking or hiking trails near you. This has plenty of perks such as beautiful views, fresh air, and different environment than walking around your neighborhood.


Anyone can benefit by adding a few more step into their day. I hope these tips will encourage you to get up from your seat or couch and get those steps in!
